Rabbit Care

So You have decided to get a little baby bunny. What do you do now?

Cage / Housing:

Cages

Of course the bigger the better! But bigger is not always pracitcal. Some places say 4x the size of the rabbit, this is no where near enough room for your Rabbit, maybe when it is 2-4 months old, but not after that. We generally buy Marchioro Cages for our customers (or similar Tubbies Cages). We say 32.25"L x 20"W x 17"H (or the Marchioro 82 Cage)  for a Netherland Dwarf or Dwarf Hotot, anything less than 3lbs. 40" x 21" x 20 1/2 (or Marchioro 102) for one Small Rabbit EX: Holland lop Dutch.47"L x 22"W x 22" H (or Marchioro 120) for Two <3lb Rabbits or one medium Sized Rabbit EX: Mini Lop, Lionhead. These are the smallest cages, if you can go bigger! We do not recommend putting rabbits larger then 8lbs in Cages.

Exercise Pens

A Much Cheaper way to go, or for those of you that like Big Buns! Buy a dog exercise pen and have your bun live in that. They will need a house or hideaway. This is a great setup, the only setback is if you have a dog or cat that will either push the pen, or jump into the pen a terrorize your bun. I have no problem with my cats and the rabbits, the cats usually will leave them alone, but make sure they get along before letting them be alone togeather. You can buy tops/bottoms for exercise pens this is a good idea if you have cats, or put it on the bottom and you won't have to worry about your floor, or buy two and do both! The easiest thing to do for flooring, is to buy an indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot and put it under the pen.

Free Roam

Personally I think this is the best way to go, considering you can bunny proof an entire room. I have my two "pet buns" in my bedroom. I rasied my bed off the grond with bed risers from Walmart. All the bunny stuff is under the bed, food, water, hay basket, litter box, toys bed ETC. BEWARE Rabbits will chew everything and anything, I have holes in my jeans from rabbits digging them if i left them on the floor, and I have lost many sets of head phones. My wallpaper is ribbed off the walls from rabbits digging at it and chewing it.And all of this was caused by two dwarf rabbits, in the period of three months when I first started with rabbits.

Diet

A nice mix of hay, pellets and fresh vegetables as well as fresh water is the best for pet rabbits.

Pellets:

Pellets shoudl be purchased so they are fresh, and in a sealed bag. Look for products that are high in fiber and low in protein. A pellet that is high in protein and
